In the next few weeks I’ll be doing Best WWII Films, Best Sports Films, Best Crime/Gangsta Films and Best Films of All Time-if you’ve got any suggestions then wing them my way via twitter or e-mail: dan @ danmartiextreme.com.
This all comes from a piece my friend ran on his excellent website Blokely.com. He listed the ten greatest non World War II films of all time and in my eyes hienously over looked some absolute classics. He excluded World War II as undoubtedly most of the great war movies have been about WWII. Now that I’ve come to do a list myself I can see his point about how hard it is-I’ve tried to use the definition of ‘Movies that centre on a battle in a war’ to narrow it down a bit. Here’s my five:
Zulu: Rourkes Drift
“Well, they’ve got a very good bass section, mind. But no top tenors that’s for sure.”
Apocalypse Now: ‘Nam
The Lighthorsemen: World War I
Platoon: ‘Nam
Spartacus: Roman Rebellions
I am Spartacus! “I am Spartacus!” Alright, you be Spartacus then.
These would defintely have made the list but they’re about massacres not wars:
Black Hawk Down
Waltzing With Bashir
Hotel Rwanda
Blood Diamond
Can you include these as War Films:
Top Gun?
Star Wars?
Gladiator?
If you need anymore of a massive war film thrill then this movie coming out about Genghis Khan looks awesome:
If you liked this then you’ll like these:
Thursday Thriller: B.A.S.E. Jumping
Thursday Thriller: Climbing Buildings
Thursday Thriller: Tight Rope Walking
Thursday Thriller: Weather (Part II)
Thursday Thriller: Weather (Part 1)
Thursday Thriller: Animals
Thursday Thriller: Cliff Diving
Thursday Thriller: Free Running/Parkour
Thursday Thriller: Free Diving
Thursday Thriller: Going Where You Ain’t Supposed To
Thursday Thriller: Space
Thursday Thriller: Running
Thursday Thriller: Swimming
Thursday Thriller: Two Wheels
Thursday Thriller: Extreme Thrills
Thursday Thriller: Surfing

Seems to be alot of call on Twitter for Full Metal Jacket to be included-but which one would you take out? Would make the list quite ‘Nam based.
